(Redirected from Gotterdammerung)
In BattleTech, Götterdämmerung—often spelled without the umlaut diacritics (two dots) as "Gotterdammerung" (see Notes below on spelling)—may refer to:
- Götterdämmerung (BattleMech), the 75-ton BattleMech
- Götterdämmerung (Individual Star Lord-class JumpShip), Skye separatist flagship
- Götterdämmerung (system), the planetary system
- Gotterdammerung Society [sic], a mercenary unit
- Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the Lyran Commonwealth invasion of the Draconis Combine during the Fourth Succession War
Notes[edit]
The name apparently refers to Götterdämmerung, German for "Twilight of the Gods," the title of a piece from Richard Wagner's famous opera Der Ring des Nibelungen. While the word is spelled thusly in many instances in canon sources, there are also many instances where the diacritics are omitted from the ä and ö, as "Gotterdammerung." Neither "Gotter" nor "Dammerung" is an existing or meaningful word in German or any other language. It is thus generally assumed in all cases that the correct spelling would be with diacritics, i.e. Götterdämmerung.
