Griff Storm was the commanding officer of Storm's Metal Thunder mercenary unit.[2]

Storm was still commanding his regiment during the FedCom Civil War. They were stationed on the planet Kikuyu on 3064 when Clan Jade Falcon's forces invaded it. After several days of heavy fighting, the 7th July, Griff ordered his people to evacuate, and along with several lances made a last-ditch effort to buy time his unit to evacuate. BUt, one after another, they fell, until only his Devastator resisted.[1]
Sergeant Andrew Rivenberg attempted to assist the Colonel, but it was too late: when his Salamander was near, a barrage of Gauss Rifle fire descended on Storm's. He attempted to pivot his 'Mech to avoid the fire, but a Falcon's Battle Cobra cut off one of his legs. A rain of missiles fell over the Devastator, and after receiving them, Storm's 'Mech was static. His efforts had buy time to evacuate, but only two 'Mechs, the support staf and technicians, managed to escape.[1]
After escaping, both MechWarrior survivors, brothers Timothy Rivenberg and Andrew Rivenberg, talked about his death. Timothy blamed Storm's old tactics for the crushing defeat, and said than, in fact, the Colonel's stand was useless, as by then, most of the families were already on the tarmac.[1]

Storm's 'Mech, at the time of his death, was a DVS-1D Devastator.[1]
