Description[edit]

The Jonah-class Submarine was a small research submersible vehicle designed for deep water explorations.

History[edit]

The design's origins can be traced back to years of the Ryan Cartel's heyday during the Age of War. The Cartel's branch division, Ryan Systemics, developed the Jonah's forerunner, the Javis to help in the Cartel's effort development in their water trade with other worlds. The Javis was intended to handle different planetary conditions in water environments. However, the Cartel looked down on the development of the Javis and their designers due to rise of water filtration technologies at the time. Prior to the Systemics properties being sold off, the prototype would be stolen.[1][2]

The design resurfaced in 2714 and was offered to Napa Tidal Research on Blue Hole as the "Jonah" by the descendant of the man who stole it, Unger Stefanis. Purchasing the design from Stefanis in exchange for Cokery Island chain on planet, the company would end up teaming up with Branson United to put the vehicle into production. However, the unique hull form of the Jonah would create difficulties in mass producing in large quantities. The joint effort to produce the submarine ended in 2724, a mere ten years after limited production began.[1][2]

Interstellar Expeditions, then known as Interplanetary Expeditions (IE) would end up acquiring ruins of the factory on Blue Hole and revived the design for production by 3047. IE produced the vehicle for its subsidiary company's exclusive use, but found it was a rather disappointing machine. IE had found the design interesting due to nature of the original Star League era's design ability to be refitted with small micro thrusters and used as a small exploration craft. However, the design prove not to be as effective as spacecraft. The vehicle would remain in production until the first years of the Jihad, when Blue Hole was captured by Clan Jade Falcon in 3069.[4][5]

Equipment and Capabilities[edit]

The Jonah uses a unique Submersible and Ultra-Light Chassis for its intended mission. Though only two tons in weight, the vehicle is designed to handle water pressures diving to ten kilometers and providing life support and adequate stores space to keep its tiny three person capacity alive for ten days per dive.[1][2]

The vehicle is equipped with two basic manipulators, similar to the ones used on Exoskeletons and other light power armor to handle items the crew wishes to grab. For cargo and stores for use crew or mission, the vehicle has a 194 kilogram cargo capacity. A remote sensor dispenser mounted in the rear of the vehicle used to help track where the vehicle has been and monitor the environment that the crew wishes to focus on. The vehicle's 250 kg fusion engine allows the vehicle to move in a liquid type environments at a maximum speed of 64 km/h.[1][2]

The Jonah is also equipped with Submersible and Ultra-Light Chassis Modifications.[1][2]

Design Quirks[edit]

The Jonah Submarine is subject to the following Design Quirk:[2]

Notes[edit]

As of this writing there no published record sheets for the Jonah Submarine.

An unstated variant, which replaces its underwater movement with a small space thrusters was noted in the fluff, however it was deemed a failure when Interstellar Expeditions tried to employ it as a small spacecraft.
