Kirk DeYoung was the commanding officer of the Malagrotta Combat Region of the Chirikof Operational Area as of 3067.[2]

History[edit]

General DeYoung was the commander of the Malagrotta Combat Region in 3067.[2] In 3072 the Kearny Combat Region's military was being stretched to cover the needs of other Combat Regions. Both General DeYoung and local officials within the Combat Region began to consider a motion to duplicate the solution adopted by the newly formed Filtvelt Coalition when it declared itself independent. It was widely speculated that by separating from the Federated Suns it would be easier for the region to raise troops to defend itself from pirates.[3] On the 19th of March 3073, the Kearny Combat Region became the Malagrotta Cooperative with the Malagrotta Declaration of Independence. The document cited that FedSun's failure in defending the region and declared itself an independent nation. While the protests from Princess Regent Yvonne Steiner-Davion and her command staff were sharp, the Declaration of Independence didn't prompt a military response from the Federated Suns.[4][5]

In late October 3075, Voorzitter Marion Whillshire killed Lady Death Trevaline of the pirate band Death's Consorts only to be killed in turn by Trevaline's deputy, Gary Tiqualme. Tiqualme took full command of the Consorts and they moved to consolidate their control of the Cooperative. During the Consorts' attacks as they took control DeYoung was killed. Despite DeYoung's death, three-quarters of the Malagrotta CrMM escaped under command of General Garman Doucette and managed to flee to Filtvelt.[1]
