Plot summary[edit]
Magistracy Intelligence Ministry operative Geoff Hawk, violently ill after massive surgery that exchanged both his arms for bionic limbs with hidden features, modified his nervous system and provided him with full subdermal armor, muses why he was invited to join the Ebon Magistrate in the first place, and why he accepted. Flashback scenes involving his youth on Novo Tressida and his brother Dean eventually lead him to the conclusion that it was simple curiosity about how it would be to undergo such massive modification to his body. Now that he knows, he is left wondering if maybe the price was too high...
