Captain Lenny Markbright was a member of the Waco Rangers from at least 3025 to 3058.[1][2][3][4][5]

History[edit]

Early Career[edit]

In 3025, Markbright was a sergeant who served as tactical adviser to Colonel Wayne Waco's headquarters lance. Known for his analytical yet flexible thinking, he was considered one of the best known noncommissioned personnel to pilot a Cyclops and was credited as one of the major reasons for the unit's success.[1]

His tactical wizardry was assisted by his use of a modified Tacticon B-2000 Battle Computer, which allowed him to track his entire regiment and all enemy units in range, in order to plot and coordinate unit maneuvers while working alongside Colonel Waco. His skill in this task allowed him to anticipate enemy movements in time for Colonel Waco to effectively deploy his reserves.

Markbright also acted as Colonel Waco's aide and bodyguard during on-planet operations, though Waco often remarked he should be Markbright’s bodyguard, considering his value to the Rangers.[2]

Nockatunga[edit]

In September 3032, the still Sergeant Markbright participated in the fighting between the Waco Rangers and Snord's Irregulars on Nockatunga. Markbright was part of a group of Rangers' 'Mechs, including Colonel Waco, which were trapped by the Irregulars in the hills twelve kilometers from the city of Thule. The Rangers were defeated by the Irregulars in the ensuing battle, with Cranston Snord disabling Colonel Waco's 'Mech, though choosing to spare his life.[3]

Coventry[edit]

By 3058, Markbright had been promoted to Captain and was part of the Waco Rangers' contribution to the Coventry Expeditionary Force, which fought against Clan Jade Falcon during the Battle of Coventry. On 21 April, Markbright participated in the Waco Rangers' attempt to flank the Jade Falcon forces via the Dales Highlands on Coventry, which blundered into a Jade Falcon ambush. The Rangers suffered heavy casualties in this battle, including the capture of Colonel Wayne Rogers.[4]

Markbright was one of the few survivors of the ambush, and as the senior remaining Rangers officer, took command of the unit during their retreat. He remained in charge of the Waco Rangers for the rest of the Coventry campaign, until the release of the captured Colonel Rogers when the Falcons left Coventry, reorganizing what forces were left to him and contributing to the ongoing fighting by Victor Steiner-Davion's coalition in a small way.[5]

BattleMech[edit]

Markbright was known to have piloted a CP-11-A Cyclops nicknamed Polyphemus, which had a modified B-2000 Battle Computer.[4][2][3][1]
