Lisa Aileen Bortman was an officer in the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns and was the commanding officer of the Eighth Deneb Light Cavalry as of 3050.[3]

History[edit]

Hauptmann-General Bortman, serving with the Eighth Deneb Light Cavalry, was stationed on La Blon in 3050.[3] By 3062, now-Leutnant-General Bortman continued to command the Eighth DLC and was stationed on Kikuyu. Although a native of Kittery, Bortman's family moved to Zebebelgenubi while she was a toddler and Bortman therefore identified herself as a "child of Skye." Joining the Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth as soon as she could and eventually earning entrance to the Sanglamore, Bortman bounced between units before landing in the Eighth Deneb Light Cavalry, apparently as a result of maneuvering from Duke of Porrima Ryan Steiner. While the Eighth Deneb Light Cavalry remained loyal to the DLC organization and its traditions, Bortman's main loyalty still belonged to Skye.[2]

Civil War[edit]

The Federated Commonwealth Civil War began while Bortman and the Eighth Deneb were still posted to Kikuyu and Bortman's failure to swear loyalty towards Archon Katherine Steiner-Davion earned her the distrust of the neighboring Sixth Donegal Guards and Storm's Metal Thunder and the commander of the Freedom Theater, Kommandant-General Seamus Kinell. On 2 January 3063, the Sixth Donegal attacked the Eighth Deneb's main base without provocation, dealing serious damage to both base facilities and the Eighth Deneb itself. As the Eighth Deneb's responding 'Mech and armor units activated within the Sixth's overextended lines, the impact of their response belied their chaotic communication and command situation, allowing several companies to escape the Sixth Donegal's assault, although half of the RCT perished as a result of the attack.[1]

The Metal Thunder's assault on the Eighth Deneb's other base was delayed by civilian ship traffic and the time it took to arrange supporting armored regiments, allowing the DLC the chance to notice the coming attack and make preparations for delaying actions. The entrenched Deneb artillery and aircraft made the mercenaries' push a much more difficult affair than the Sixth Donegal's massacre and Storm's decision to push his 'Mechs ahead of their supporting armor left them exposed to heavy attack from the Eighth Deneb's own armor and jump infantry resources. Chasing the fleeing mercenaries all the way back to their original landing zones by the next day, the Eighth Deneb had managed to survive the first day of fighting. The temporarily-victorious Eighth Deneb sent out DropShips to rescue the few survivors who had managed to flee from the Sixth Donegal's assault, although it was officially confirmed that Colonel Jean-Henri de Jeruc of the Eighth's Armor Brigade was the senior surviving officer of the RTC, indicating that Leutnant-General Bortman had been killed during the day's events.[1]
