Description

Developed prior to Gray Monday, the Loki Mk II is a Heavy Class OmniMech which was originally created for the touman of Clan Jade Falcon. Also known as the Hel internally among the Clans, the Loki Mk II is upgraded version of the venerable Hellbringer developed by Clan Hell's Horses in 2926.[4][5] The new 'Mech differs from its thirtieth century originator by having heavier equipment capacity and improved armor protection.

The 'Mech would become primarily used by Clan Jade Falcons and Hell's Horses in 3145, where the 'Mech would see action during those Clans' invasions of the Inner Sphere powers such as the Republic of the Sphere and Lyran Commonwealth. A noted action that utilized the Loki Mk II was during the Jade Falcon's occupation of Sargasso in 3142. The 9th Talon deployed a binary of Loki Mk IIs to suppress resistance in the city of Salicastrum. The Cluster's Loki Mk IIs (fitted with B Configurations) used their Long Tom Cannons to blast rebel forces. However, a Nova of Wolf-In-Exiles forces ambushed the binary, and the ensuing battle rendered half the Jade Falcon Loki Mk IIs destroyed, however the survivors would withdraw temporarily. A Star's worth of survivors from the 9th would return to force a Clan Wolf retreat and prevent the world from falling back into Commonwealth hands.[6]

Weapons and Equipment

The Loki Mk II is noted for its large 40 ton Omni Pod Capacity. This improvement was achieved through reducing the size of the 'Mech's engine to a 260-Rated XL Fusion Engine, having a Small Cockpit, and the use of Ferro-Fibrous armor.

The Prime Configuration of the Loki Mk II is geared towards long-range combat. The 'Mech's arms are fitted with a pair of Gauss Rifles and ER Large Lasers. In closer ranges, MechWarriors have a right torso mounted 4-tubed Streak SRM Launcher to add additional firepower where the Gauss Rifles become difficult to aim. The main guns are supplied with 3 tons of ammunition, while the Streak launcher is allotted a single ton. Two additional Double Heat Sinks are fitted to the Prime, to help it cope with the heat of the ER Larges.[7]

Alternate Configurations

  • Alt. Config. A
Designed to handle armored infantry and combat vehicles, the A Configuration comes with a balance of energy and ballistic weaponry. Each of the Configuration's arms comes with an ER PPC and Medium Pulse Laser, and two Double Heat Sinks. In the right torso are fitted two hard-hitting Improved Heavy Medium Lasers and a pair of AP Gauss Rifles. The left side torso houses a single LB 10-X Class Autocannon, 'Mech's 2 tons of ammunition for the AC, and the single ton of space for AP Gauss Rifles' ammo. Two additional Double Heat Sinks are found in the center and in the head. BV(2.0)=2,249[8][9][10]
  • Alt. Config. B
Geared as a Fire-Support role, the B's heavy firepower focused in its Long Tom Cannon and ER Large Laser, while four Medium Pulse Lasers round out the 'Mech's defensive weaponry. The Cannon's three tons of ammunition is found in the right torso with one of the 'Mech's three additional heat sinks. BV(2.0)=1,798[11][12][13]

Notes

The Loki Mk II's visual likeness was first created by Wizkids' MechWarrior Dark Age Collectable Miniatures game as a part of its Fire Power expansion set. When it first appeared, it was originally listed as the Loki. The figure (differs from the original BattleTech version) was used for both regular units and the game's unique figures. It was later adapted by Catalyst Game Labs and redefined in the tabletop game once the company advanced the franchise's timeline to 3145.

Originally the Loki Mk II's alternate Clan name was simply Hellbringer Mk II, which was published in first edition of the PDF as such. However, developer level errant was issued, changing the alternate Clan name to Hel. The name Hel comes from norse mythology. Where the Poetic Edda, Prose Edda describes Hel as the daughter norse god Loki and she is the Queen of Hell.[14][15]
