The Primary configuration uses the same weapons loadout previously seen on the Timber Wolfs alternate configuration D: twin ER PPCs provide a strong punch at long range, while two streak SRM-6s deal a similarly powerful short range blow. *;Alt. Config. A : This configuration switches up all of the Mad Cat Mk IV's armament by replacing the ER PPCs with ER Large Lasers and each pack of SRM-6 with a single ATM 9. The remaining tonnage is spent on four Small Pulse Lasers, two in the center torso and one in each side torso, respectively. *;Alt. Config. B : This refit is a radical makeover of the original Mad Cat Mk IV which completely scraps the weapons of the original. Its right side only has a massive Hyper-Assault Gauss Rifle 30, which is linked both to the right arm and the right torso, giving the 'Mech its main punch at all ranges. The rest of empty pod space is used to fit an ATM 9 into the left torso instead of the original's SRM launchers. Lastly, the 'Mech sports an Improved Heavy Large Laser in its left arm. To mount such massive equipment, this configuration sacrifices two Double Heat Sinks. *;Alt. Config. C : This configuration mirrors the equipment of the classic Timber Wolf Prime. It sacrifices two Double Heat Sinks to mount the needed equipment. The last difference in the equipment is the switch of Timber Wolf's two Machine Guns for an additional Medium Pulse Laser. *;Alt. Config. PR : This chassis and configuration, along with the PR2, swap out the XXL engine with an XL engine (greatly reducing the cost) and replaces the Ferro-Lamellor armor with Ferro-Fibrous. It also exchanges one Double Heat Sink for a ER Small Laser added to the left torso. The PR and PR2 were presumably the prototypes taken by the Jade Falcons.  BV = 2,702
+
*;Alternate Configuration C : Similar to the classic Timber Wolf Prime, this configuration carries an ER large and ER medium laser in each arm, with an LRM-15 launcher in each side torso. The launchers have three tons of CASE II protected reloads available, and are augmented with Artemis V systems. For medium to close range combat, a pair of medium pulse lasers are fitted in the center torso. BV = 2,796

*;Alt. Config. PR2 : A configuration based off the original PR config. It retains the ER PPCs, the ER Small Laser and the extra Double Heat Sink. The real change is in the missile racks which had all the Streak SRM-6s replaced with two ATM 6s facing the front and two ATM 3s facing the rear of the 'Mech. BV = 2,666
+
*;Alternate Configuration PR : This non-Omni chassis primarily differs from the production model by using an XL engine instead an XXL engine. It is also fitted with twelve tons of ferro-fibrous armour which, while on paper gives it superior protection, lacks the ferro-lamellor's damage reducing properties. Armed like the Prime with a pair of ER PPCs and four streak SRM6 launchers, with two facing to the rear, the PR also carries an ER small laser in the left torso.  BV = 2,702

*;Alternate Configuration PR2 : A variant of the PR configuration, the PR2 retains the XL engine, ER PPCs, ER small laser and the sixteen double heat sinks of its predecessor. The secondary missile weaponry is altered, with the four streak SRM-6s replaced with two front-facing ATM 6s and two rear-facing ATM 3s. The PR2 carries three tons of ATM 6 ammunition, and one ton of ATM 3. The PR and PR2 were presumably prototypes taken and used by Clan Jade Falcon. Description[edit]

Renewing the Mad Cat legend, the Mk IV used some of the most powerful configurations of its ancestor. Clan Sea Fox expected to experience the same success with this model as it had with previous ones. The development of the Mad Cat Mk IV had its origins in an illicit collaboration between Clan Jade Falcon and Spina Khanate's Beta Aimag, led by ovKhan Sha Clarke. When this arrangement came to light—and was repudiated by Clan Sea Fox as a whole—all connection with the Falcons was severed (though the Falcons did manage to retain an unspecified number of non-Omni prototypes). OvKhan Petr Kalasa of Spina's Delta Aimag was granted the right to pursue development of the OmniMech, sold as the Mad Cat Mk IV to the Inner Sphere and as the Savage Wolf to the Clans.

The production model is a top of the line OmniMech, built with an endo-steel chassis around an ultra-lightweight XXL fusion engine. Able to reach speeds of 86 kph and with 28 tons of space for weapons and equipment, the Mad Cat Mk IV is deadly on the offence, and its 16 tons of ferro-lamellor armour provides ample protection from all attacks. 15 integrated double heat sinks are able to handle most heat loads, but additional ones may need to be fitted to maintain optimal performance.[1]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The Primary configuration uses the same weapons loadout previously seen on the Timber Wolf's alternate configuration D: twin ER PPCs provide a strong punch at long range, while two streak SRM-6s deal a similarly powerful short range blow. Just as with that configuration, two additional streak SRM-6s are mounted facing to the rear, providing the design with a 360° fire arc.[1]

Configurations[edit]

  • Alternate Configuration A
This configuration replaces the original loadout with an ER large laser in each arm, and an ATM 9 in each of the side torsos. The remaining tonnage is spent on four small pulse lasers, two in the center torso and one in each side torso. Four tons of ammunition is carried for the missile launchers in CASE protected bays. BV = 2,413[4][5]
  • Alternate Configuration B
A radical departure from the original Mad Cat Mk IV, the right arm carries a massive Hyper-Assault Gauss rifle 30 which spills into the right torso, giving the 'Mech its main punch at all ranges. The remaining pod space is spent on an ATM 9 in the left torso and an improved heavy large laser in its left arm. To mount such massive equipment this configuration uses two fewer double heat sinks compared to the Prime. BV = 2,606 [6][7]
  • Alternate Configuration C
Similar to the classic Timber Wolf Prime, this configuration carries an ER large and ER medium laser in each arm, with an LRM-15 launcher in each side torso. The launchers have three tons of CASE II protected reloads available, and are augmented with Artemis V systems. For medium to close range combat, a pair of medium pulse lasers are fitted in the center torso. BV = 2,796[8][9]
  • Alternate Configuration PR
This non-Omni chassis primarily differs from the production model by using an XL engine instead an XXL engine. BV = 2,702[10][11]
  • Alternate Configuration PR2
A variant of the PR configuration, the PR2 retains the XL engine, ER PPCs, ER small laser and the sixteen double heat sinks of its predecessor. BV = 2,666[12][13]

Design Quirks[edit]

The Mad Cat Mk IV is subject to the following Design Quirks:[1]

Notable Pilots[edit]

  • Anastasia Kerensky - Her 'Mech was one of the first production models from Clan Sea Fox. Painted in dark gray and red, she named the 'Mech Omega, and utilised the Prime configuration.[14]
  • Alaric Wolf - Named Wepwawet after the after the wolf-headed Egyptian god of war said to symbolise the unification of the kingdoms, Alaric's use of the Mad Cat Mk IV made it one of Clan Wolf's favoured 'Mechs. He piloted Alternate Configuration A, enjoying its flexibility and adaptability.[15][16]

Related Designs[edit]

  • Timber Wolf - The original Timber Wolf, ancestor to this design, was famously dubbed the Mad Cat by Inner Sphere forces as a reporting name when first encountered at the beginning of the Clan Invasion.
  • Mad Cat Mk II - Designed by Clan Diamond Shark for trade and profits, the Mad Cat Mk II is a 90-ton assault BattleMech, with a hull based strongly on that of the Timber Wolf. The Mad Cat Mk II has been marketed to both other Home Clans and Inner Sphere armies, hence the choice of the Inner Sphere designation: "Mad Cat".[17][18]
  • Mad Cat III - Following the success of the Timber Wolf family, the Mad Cat III was be created to act as a companion to its elder designs in the medium weight class.
