Malerie Faulkner was a mercenary and later an officer of the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns.

Malerie Faulkner was a distant freeborn descendant of a Clan Jade Falcon warrior of the Folkner Bloodline. At some point she bought a refurbished OmniMech and became a mercenary, joining the unit Tally's Talons. By 3147, she had reached the rank of captain and became executive officer of the unit. On 19 September, she assisted with the contract renewal negotiations between her commander, Major Tallula Zheng, and First Prince Julian Davion.[2]
On the 4th of December, along with the rest of the Talons, Faulkner made a combat drop upon New Syrtis as part of Operation CERBERUS. Once on the ground, Zheng blamed Julian Davion for the damage to the Talons' 'Mechs, claiming he was using the unit and other mercenaries as bait and cannon fodder.[3] When the Talons approached their objective for the next assault, the planet's underground headquarters known as the Cave, Zheng ordered Faulkner not to shoot at a group of Capellan aerospace fighters. She ignored the order along with a handful of others in her company, and downed a Transgressor, resulting in a reprimand. Once underground, the Talons' leader revealed to Faulkner that the Talons had been contracted in secret by the Capellan Confederation to assassinate Julian Davion. But when they attacked him in the Cave, Faulkner was unable to commit such a dezgra and un-clan-like attack, and turned against Zheng's Shrike, saving the Prince's life. A fight ensued and Faulkner, to her chagrin, was forced to kill her superior and friend. When Davion ordered her to stand down, she surrendered to the his First Davion Guards. She was the only noted survivor of the Talons.[4]
Faulkner enlisted in the AFFS with the rank of Leftenant and was rewarded for her actions in the Cave by being asked to join Davion's personal retinue. She declined the honor as she felt she would not see frontline combat in that position. In New Syrtis' capital, Saso, on 18 July 3148, she was on patrol with her lance during a protest that was interrupted by a terrorist bombing and chemical attack. On 17 August, she fought against the Capellan's massive counterattack, Operation WHIRLWIND. When Danai Liao-Centrella engaged Davion with Yen-Lo-Wang, Faulkner led the charge to defend him and rammed Liao-Centrella's 'Mech, saving Davion's life once again. In the process she was wounded and lost consciousness. It is implied she died of her injuries.[1]
