Planetary History

Early History

The planet Marik was settled in 2139 by Antonin Marik acting under authority of the Terran Alliance.[4] Granted to the Marik family, the world's fortunes have risen and fallen along with that of its ruling family. The planet's mineral wealth helped the Mariks attain economic prosperity after it declared independence from the Alliance in 2238. In 2241, the Republic of Marik was founded, with Charles Marik at its head and Marik as one of the four founding members. When the Republic of Marik conquered Atreus in 2246, the Republic of Marik reinvented itself as the Marik Commonwealth, with Marik as a member.[5] After the formation of the Free Worlds League in 2271, Marik became an interior world that was largely spared the ravages of war. League Central Coordination and Command (LCCC), the bureaucracy that run the Free Worlds League Military, was headquartered on Marik. Though still the ancestral landhold of the Marik family, Marik was eclipsed in many ways by Atreus, the capital of the League.[1][2]

Star League

Marik served as the headquarters for the III Corps (Star League) prior to the fall of the Star League.[17]

Civil War

The traditionally spartan world played host to the Star League Council in 3064.

Jihad & Dark Age

Following the Jihad and the dissolution of the Free Worlds League, Marik became the capital of the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth under Corinne Marik in 3082. Her grandson Anson tried to turn Marik into an armed camp and a trap for invaders from the Lyran Commonwealth, so he relocated the capital to Atreus. Marik-Stewart instead had to deal with an invasion from the Spirit Cats in 3136. Captain-General Jessica Marik of the Oriente Protectorate struck a deal with Clan Sea Fox and the Spirit Cats that allowed them to remain on the world, as long as the Oriente flag flew over it. Between the three powers, Marik was wrested from Anson's rule in 3137 and three flags fly over Marik.[citation needed]
