History[edit]

The Right Honourable Earl Percival Fillington was the Planetary Chairman of Hachiman until his death in 3056. Percival was raised by his grandfather, Rex Fillington, a man described as being reptilian and tyrannical. Physically Percival was unimposing; possessed of a sickly constitution and a slight build, Percival had been treated harshly by Rex, who treated his grandson as if he were physically, morally and mentally defective. Despite this, Percival was a handsome, well-featured man with chestnut hair, and was one of those few people who managed to graduate from the Sun Zhang Academy in a single term. Percival subsequently earned the Bushido Blade decoration for his actions in combat. While the nobility of Hachiman and much of the middle class regarded him as being something of a nincompoop, he had a pleasant nature and was able, intelligent and brave... although he was also prone to consistently underestimating himself and his abilities.[5]

Percival died on 24 December 3056 when the Word of Blake raided his palace in the Assad District of Masamori during his annual Chairman's Day Eve Ball. When the raid began, Blakist agents on foot burst into the Grand Ballroom in the palace; Percival attempted to demand to know what their business was, and one of the agents immediately gunned him down, along with his bodyguards.[2][3]

Notes[edit]

  • The holiday known as Chairman's Day on Hachiman fell on the 25th of December, and was created by a Planetary Chairman named Isoroku Fillington as a means of allowing all of the various religious communities amongst the population to continue to observe a religious holiday from religions that were officially alien and unwelcome under the guise of a state event. It hasn't been confirmed if Isoruku was a direct ancestor of Percival Fillington.[6]
