Policy Talk:Be bold

Questions about opinion words and weasel words[edit]

Not sure if this should be in "Be bold" or in "Manual of Style", but I chose "Be bold".

  1. What is the Sarna policy on using abverbs or other articles of speech that imply opinion, such as "probably"/"likely"? Example: "One such unit was likely the Special Air Lance of the Twelfth Dieron Regulars, an all LAM unit to which Sharon Dorsee and Mandrake Matherson were likely assigned at the time.". I'm assumming that such usage should be kept out of the main body of articles, but are fine in the notes section of an article.
  2. What is the sarna policy towards weasel word usage? Probably not very common on sarna, was just curious.75.23.228.139 12:40, 5 October 2022 (EDT)
I'm not aware of a policy regulating this. As for weasel words, many BT sources are in fact in-universe documents, potentially prone to bias, error and even deliberate misinformation, and arguably need to be quoted/sourced as such. In a similar vein, much universe lore is inferred instead of directly spelled out, leaving us with educated guesswork instead of solid information. An example for an edge case here would be the class of the JumpShip Norseman; I bring this up because I recall writing it and making the call.
Not sure if this is helpful commentary. I guess the "rule" is to go by gut feeling; currently my impression is that we cannot avoid opinion or weasel words on Sarna. Frabby (talk) 15:21, 5 October 2022 (EDT)
