A tinkerer from his days growing up on a farm, Severn acquired formal technician training at the Allison MechWarrior Institute. Near the end of the Fourth Succession War, his career shifted: due to a pilot shortage, he was made a MechWarrior. A mix of natural talent and bravery drove him up the ranks and brought him the attention of Captain-General Thomas Marik, who he quickly befriended.[1]

As of 3054, Severn was lean, handsome, and gray-haired. He tended towards bluntness and a no-nonsense approach.[1]
