Profession MechWarrior

Rard Hoyt was an elite trueborn MechWarrior of the non-exclusive Clan Smoke Jaguar Founding Bloodhouse of Hoyt. A part of the Clan Jade Falcon touman during the Operation REVIVAL invasion of the Inner Sphere, he commanded the First Falcon Striker Cluster, despite being described as "physically inferior,"[1] eventually commanding Epsilon Galaxy until the dawn of the Jihad.

History[edit]

Labeled an "enigma," the pale and gaunt Rard was noted as "slow and weak" and "unimpressive" leading contemporaries to question his fitness as a warrior, commander, and Bloodname holder. Rard Hoyt instead honed his cunning and unaugmented martial skills.[1][2]

Operation REVIVAL[edit]

Hoping to stave off challeges, Rard Hoyd bid aggressively throughout the Invasion. One of the more active units, the First Striker was involved with the following actions:

Tukayyid[edit]

Star Colonel Rard Hoyt led his Cluster against the 403rd Division of ComStar at Tukayyid the Accursed, during which he was injured,[1] but survived and earned consideration for higher command.[2]

Star Colonel Hoyt and the usage of a Headhunter unit by the First Falcon Striker during the Battle of Tukayyid against the 403rd Division as they approached the bridge at Robyn's Crossing was particularly studied. The Division had a number of heavily fortified defensive positions just two kilometers out from the bridge. Rard Hoyt dispatched the Cluster's lightest units to draw Guard's fire, while his heavier OmniMech units hit their positions. This permitted a Star of Elementals to slip behind the 403rd's lines and kill Precentor Robert Maigatter, ensuring the destruction of the Division's critical supplies and communication equipment. The 403rd broke from the engagement, allowing for the Cluster to close in and destroy 70% of Division.[2][3][4]

Galaxy Command[edit]

Rard Hoyt defeated Galaxy Commander Emi Roshack for the honor of leading Epsilon Galaxy.[5]

Post-Refusal War[edit]

After the Refusal War, Phi Galaxy had been reduced to just three clusters and Epsilon was in a similar position. Khan Marthe Pryde ordered the Galaxy Commander of each to participate in a Trial of Possession to see which Galaxy would be rebuilt at the expense of the other. Galaxy Commander Hoyt of Epsilon won and Phi was deactivated.[5] Galaxy Commander Hoyt was still listed as commander of the galaxy as of 3067, [6] though shortly thereafter lost command to his longtime subordinate Star Colonel Diane Anu.

BattleMechs[edit]

Rard Hoyt piloted a Summoner OmniMech during the Battle of Tukayyid.[1]
