Planetary History

The installation known as Rest Stop is located in the system in the Deep Periphery cataloged by the Star League as SLSC M9III.2855, located some 90 light-years spinward and coreward of the Taumaturgo system. The system itself is unremarkable, consisting of three planets - an inner world that is nothing more than an airless rock, and two gas giants - and a pair of asteroid belts. The star located at the heart of the system was considered notable by the Star League because of its prominance in the local region; as a red giant, it is easily identifiable by lost JumpShips using even rudimentary navigational equipment. It was this feature that apparently led to the Star League constructing a recharge station at the star's nadir jump point.[1]

The recharge station remained functional even after the Star League fell and was used by a range of people including stragglers attempting to follow General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus and a multitude of explorers and bandits. Interstellar Expeditions discovered the installation in 2995 and established a presence there, one which became increasingly widely known over the next century. While this led to bandits attempting to target the installation, it also attracted others such as businesses - one example of which was the Spinward Showgirl, a DropShip that contained a large bar and a brothel. Rest Stop remained popular with IE teams as a stopping point en route to destinations farther out in the Deep Periphery, but by 3095 bandit activity had increased to enough of an extent that while IE personnel and ships were still largely unthreatened - thanks to their firepower - the IE board identified it may need to locate a permanent security force at the facility if it wished to continue to use Rest Stop.[1]
