Planetary Info

Rubigen is a small, dark, and cold world. Over half of its surface is locked away under ice. The two seas on the world are filled with icebergs, making navigation a matter of skill and precision. Skills gained by navigating the iceberg-choked seas transfer over to three dimensional navigation, which explains why nearly 15% of the Draconis Combine Admiralty's officer corps is from Rubigen. Besides naval officers, Rubigen's most important export is the fur of the Rubigen wolverine.[1]

The glaciers on the world are cause for concern. Compared to the glaciers on Terra they move very quickly. As one example, the glacier nearest City Rubigen, the capital, was covering a meter and a half a year.[1]

History

Clan Invasion

During the Clan Invasion in April 3052, Rubigen was conquered by Clan Ghost Bear's 1st Bear Guards. They were opposed by the 4th Alshain Regulars, who unsuccessfully attempted to attempted to shoot down the Ghost Bear DropShips before they could land. The Bear Guards safely landed in Gibbon's Reality Park, a giant virtual-reality center with high-quality holographic projectors. The Fourth Alshain and their commander, Tai-sa Boris Timsjek, used technological wonder-park to their advantage by using the projectors to create many false images. They caused the Bear Guards to believe they were suddenly surrounded by three entire regiments of 'Mechs while they hid amidst the illusions to swarm the Clan units. Star Colonel Whover ordered his 'Mechs to fire on anything which gave off a signal and shed heat while his Elementals were tasked with disabling the holoprojectors. When the armored troopers succeed they found the Fourth had fled; a headhunter squad sent to find Tai-sa Timsjek similarly failed in their task. For the better part of a month, the Bear Guards pursued the defenders, as every time they managed to pin the Combine troops down they would vanish. At the end of three weeks of this chasing, realizing he could only delay the inevitable, Tai-sa Timsjek ordered his regiment to make for their DropShips and retreat. Under heavy fire from the Bear Guards less than a battalion of the 4th Alshain made it off-world.[44]

Geography

Rubigen has a dark and cold atmosphere with over half its surface covered in ice. It has two small seas which are perpetually filled with icebergs. [52]

Planetary Locations

  • City Rubigen is the capital of the planet as well as the seat of the prefecture. Near the Bassers Glacier, the glacier has been creeping toward the city at the alarming rate of one and one-half meters a year. In 3025 it was expected that the glacier would overrun the city's spaceport within the next decade.[52]
