Styx Mining is a mining and manufacturing company in the Draconis Combine.[1] [2]
Company Profile
Home Office: Memphis, Styx [1] [2]
President/CEO: Viscount Robert Monahan (Circa 3025) [1] Tozama Daimyo Charles Monahan (Circa 3067) [2]
Overview
Styx Mining can be considered a poor step child to Metals of the Earth and New Samarkand Metals, supported by House Kurita purely as a foil to both companies. Whenever both of its larger competitors have drawn a disproportionate number of government contracts or are overextended and have no further capacity available, the Combine government redistributes some to Styx to pick up the slack. A heavy sense of fatalism has infected the company's boardroom as its corporate officers struggle with their purpose in the Combine and Styx Mining is not known for innovation outside of the design of paper JumpShips. [1] [2]
The company's working class on the other hand enjoy a far less stressful environment. Since the Combine government heavily subsidizes Styx, the lack of constant contracts mean its workers often find long stretches of time where no work is being done. Many workers are encouraged to join the planetary militia and end up among the militia's mid-level officer corps thanks to the large amount of time they have free. [1]
