History[edit]

Tathis was colonized by Clan Star Adder sometime before 2844. In the early months of that year Clan Mongoose fought a Trial of Possession for the ore-rich world with a Trinary of BattleMechs. Unknown to the Mongoose commander, saKhan Dembe N'Buta was present, and the saKhan personally led a force of six other Warriors to not only defeat the Mongoose force, but disable their DropShip and claim it as isorla.[3]

At some point in the intervening years Clan Mongoose did establish an enclave on Tathis, which in turn was raided by Clan Sea Fox shorty after the development of the OmniMech in 2854. The Foxes declared a Trial for the corn harvest in order to stave off a famine resulting from improper food packaging of their own foodstuffs. Khan Kevin Arbott led a Trinary of OmniMechs against the Mongoose forces, however after the fighting grew to a stalemate he withdrew to his DropShips only to reemerge in different configurations that caught the Mongoose by surprise and allowed for a Sea Fox victory.[4]

On Tathis, and unnamed Merchant from Clan Diamond Shark who has been previously a Star Commander from Rho Spina Galaxy meets with scientist Jerome who has been acting as the middle man on a complex negotiation between Clan Ice Hellion and Clan Hell's Horses, and once he discovers that they are both near a possible breakthrough that would affect Clan Diamond Shark's HarJel monopoly, the merchant moves quickly and the clan decides to start by stalling Clan Ice Hellion. They Sharks stage an accident by using the DropShip Brightmetal and challenge Clan Ice Hellion for it with the enclave of Ristha as collateral. The bidding has Star Captain Dana Horn with the merchant's support pitted against Star Captain Erik Rickard and his assistant Star Commander Caleb. The Sharks play with the Hellions and make Caleb challenge the merchant, allowing him to enter the bid, as being an old warrior can get his rank back by Shark rules. The merchant in a Goshawk fights Caleb in a Mad Dog for the DropShip and Caleb is downed by the merchant and made a bondsman, though the DropShip is lost to the Sharks, while the enclave is won by Diamond Shark forces under Star Captain Dana Horn. As the merchant does not want to be back a warrior, this makes Caleb a bondsman of a merchant, and Caleb negotiates being back to the Warrior Caste by telling the merchant the location of a secondary laboratory where there is the backup investigation.[12]

In 3059 Clan Coyote's Nu Galaxy challenged the Star Adder's Omicron Provisional Galaxy on Tathis.[13][14]

The Wars of Possession[edit]

In 3063, Clan Star Adder began Trials of Possession for Clan Blood Spirit enclaves on York, intentionally fielding warriors fresh from sibkos and solahma second-line forces. The use of second-line forces made defending York problematic. If the Blood Spirits were to bid the best of their touman, the victory would be tainted, while any loss to these lesser Star Adder units would be a serious loss of honor. Through 3066, Clan Blood Spirit began slowly losing its capital, until the Spirits began fielding more capable units despite the potential loss of honor. Emboldened by these early gains, the Spirits attempted new Trials of Possession for parts of the Star Adder enclave on the pentagon world of Arcadia. The Spirits refused to manipulate the Star Adders by fielding inferior units, matching the honor of the Star Adder units bid in defense. Successfully taking a few holdings on Arcadia, the victories tremendously helped Blood Spirit morale.[15]

In an attempt to expand their operations even further against Clan Star Adder, the Spirits requested WarShip escort from their allies, Clan Fire Mandrill, in early 3067. Isolating the CSA Vritra by using York's outer moon, the Spirits provoked the Adders into repositioning their naval elements over York, allowing Iota Galaxy's DropShips to slip out of the York system aboard the CFM Rancor. The Rancor arrived in the Tathis system with Iota Galaxy along with Clan Fire Mandrill Kindraa Mick-Kreese's Eleventh Battle Force and Thirty-second Vanguard Battle Clusters to raid for Adder ProtoMechs and OmniMechs, before departing for the Colleen system. The raid won the raiders two Trinaries of ProtoMechs and OmniMechs.[15]

However, the assault on Tathis was joined late by a second Clan Fire Mandrill Kindraa, Kindraa Kline. While the Klines were able to damage the defending Adders as well, the assault was poorly planned and executed. Kindraa Kline ultimately lost approximately 75% of its touman, forcing them to accept the offer to join Kindraa Mick-Kreese, becoming Kindraa Mick-Kreese-Kline.[16]

The Wars of Reaving[edit]

In May 3070, Clan Snow Raven presented evidence discovered by the Raven Watch and Outworlds Alliance Intelligence that Clan Diamond Shark had traded Clan-tech Undine battle armor to the Federated Suns. Immediately, Clan Steel Viper, Clan Star Adder, and Clan Cloud Cobra began targeting Diamond Shark holdings in the Clan Homeworlds. The new assaults prompted Clan Diamond Shark to expedite their secret efforts to migrate to the Inner Sphere.[17] In the middle of 3070, the Sharks approached Clan Coyote, offering to give up their enclave on Tathis. The Coyotes would deploy a single Cluster to take the Tathis enclave by mock Trial of Possession. In addition to taking the colony, the Coyotes Harvested the Diamond Shark 27th Combined Strike Cluster and the 44th Cruiser Cluster.[8]

In 3071, recalcitrant former Clan Burrock abtakha within Clan Star Adder, primarily in Upsilon Galaxy stationed in the Tanis system, rebelled and re-formed Clan Burrock.[18] With support from former Star Adder Society and the Dark Caste, the reborn Clan Burrock was able to secure the Tanis system and raise a small flotilla of WarShips from the Clan Star Adder and Clan Cloud Cobra naval caches in the Tanis system.[19]

Late in 3072, with most of the Clan Ice Hellion touman in the Inner Sphere in an attempt to secure an Occupation Zone, Ice Hellion holdings in the Clan Homeworlds were mostly undefended. In the middle of the year, Clans Coyote and the remaining Diamond Sharks Trialed for and won foodstuffs waiting to be distributed to the Hellion lower castes. The food shortage become critical, and by October, 80% of the Hellion enclave had died due to strife, starvation, suicide or cannibalism.[9]

With the Diamond Shark departure concluding around 3072, Clan Coyote was the largest faction left in the Tathis system. At this point, the Tathis system was shared by Clans Coyote and Star Adder. Between 3072 and 3075, Clan Star Adder forces, led by saKhan Hannibal Banacek, conducted numerous operations against the Coyotes and the Coyote-backed Society.[20] The pair of adversaries shared the system until late 3075, when the combined attrition from the Society uprising and conflicts during the Wars of Reaving, along with the punishing Trial of Cleansing ordered by the Grand Council of the Clans due to Clan Coyote's aiding the Society,[21] left Clan Coyote's touman too small to defend all its enclaves. Tathis, Delios, Paxon, and Tiber, along with their lower-caste civilians, were all abandoned. While some of these colonies were permanently abandoned, Tathis was divided between Clan Cloud Cobra and Clan Star Adder.[22][10]
