Plot summary[edit]

As Clan Ghost Bear forces engage the Word of Blake on Radstadt, the Blakists detonate a neutron bomb in the capital city of Munich. Millions of civilians are doomed to death by radiation poisoning, as are several of the Ghost Bears. Galaxy Commander Jocelyn Vong organizes a special unit for a suicide mission: a Binary of radiation-poisoned Ghost Bears are to assault the 43rd Shadow Division's DropShips before they escape, approaching from a direction the Blakists won't expect: through the lethally irradiated city.

Star Captain Anjo Bekker, the highest-ranking doomed Ghost Bear, leads this unit, informally nicknamed "The Walking Dead". Aided by drugs that keep them able to fight but accelerate their deaths, the Walking Dead assault the Blakists, causing immense damage in their dying moments and creating the opportunity for reinforcements to arrive. Almost all of the 43rd's DropShips are destroyed.

In recognition of their honor, their sacrifice, and their victory, Jocelyn Vong pledges that a standing unit will remain under the name of the Walking Dead, and that lines about Anjo will be added to the Remembrance.
