Trials of Position are a Clan Trial that determines the rank of Clan Warriors. The most common form of Trial of Position occurs when a Clan cadet has finished his or her training. This Trial of Position will be the first time that Clan cadets use live ammunition, and there is a very real possibility of death. Usual Trials of Position require 2 trainees and 6 testers. The trainees each will face 3 trainers, one at a time. With one victory, the cadet becomes a Warrior in his or her Clan. With two kills, the cadet becomes a Star Commander, with each kill granting the cadet an increase in rank. If cadet, even accidentally, fires on any opponent other than the one he is currently engaged with, or fires on his fellow cadet, the fight becomes a free-for-all, in which any of the 6 testers can fire on either of the cadets. The procedure varies from Clan to Clan; for example, Jade Falcon cadets must get past a training cadre of Freeborn warriors in order to reach their 'mechs, after which the Trial continues more traditionally.
