Welcome[edit]

Welcome, MacElfrish, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "MacElfrish" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

SLDF Article Roll-Back[edit]

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know that I rolled back your latest update to to the Star League Defense Force article. You didn't do anything wrong, I just uploaded the canon rank image over the original fanon image File:SLDF-Colonel.png so that all articles using that image don't have to be manually updated as well. Also, I am requesting deletion of the image you uploaded so that there aren't duplicates.--Cache (talk) 17:59, 27 September 2020 (EDT)

-- Alright, thanks for letting me know Cache. I suppose I should've thought about that, but new-ish to wiki editing - I hadn't even considered the other articles. It was just something that was bugging me a little, that there was no difference between Colonel/Commodore and Lieutenant General/Rear Admiral rank emblems. --MacElfrish (talk) 18:33, 27 September 2020 (EDT)

That's how we all get started, and you learn new things all the time. I do things a lot different now compared to when I started. Also, it turns out that the Colonel and Lt. General emblems are the same in the Second Star League Defense Force, just different sizes. I found that out after uploading a handful of new 1st SLDF insignia images. The text states that the uniforms and rank structure are the same... but the 2nd SLDF actually made some changes according to the Field Manual: ComStar color plates vs. Field Manual: SLDF. A quick improvement turned into a project real quick.--Cache (talk) 20:31, 27 September 2020 (EDT)
Huh. I'll have to nab a copy of Field Manual: ComStar from DriveThruRPG in a moment here to take a look at that. I really wish they'd put a little more effort into the ranks when they came up with them, you know? The switch between Major and Lieutenant General still catches me sometimes, to say nothing of something like using the same emblem, just of different size. Any other book recommendations for ranks and the like? --MacElfrish (talk) 20:39, 27 September 2020 (EDT)
As far as I know, the various Field Manuals are where you'll find factions' rank, uniforms, and insignia. The old House books (plus the new House Arano book) also have them.
Cool. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything from other books. I've got most of those, so hurrah. Thanks again.--MacElfrish (talk) 22:16, 27 September 2020 (EDT)
Cache, looks like the rank table of the Second SLDF didn't update when you updated the rank images for the first SLDF; or, rather, everything below Colonel didn't. That on your list, or different image names? --MacElfrish (talk) 13:45, 1 October 2020 (EDT)
As I found out, images for 1st SLDF and 2nd SLDF rank insignia are different. They will be uploaded and displayed separately, as soon as I find out why FM:SLDF shows purple rank insignia for the navy. (Text descriptions don't mention different colors for the branches.)--Cache (talk) 11:26, 3 October 2020 (EDT)
I think maybe because the SLDF navy colour was purple? I know it was part of the uniform, and if I remember the pictures right the ranks were purple there as well. It is curious, though, that they change the colours of the rank pins rather than background or something, like we see with ranks in some of the other armed forces. My best guess, anyway.--MacElfrish (talk) 16:06, 3 October 2020 (EDT)

MW5M[edit]

Hey MacElfish,

Just saw your edit to your user profile saying you are currently playing MW5. I did a lot of the initial work on our MW5 articles from watching playthroughs on Youtube. With the advent of the modding scene it became difficult to verify things. So I encourage you to add anything you can to the MW5 articles!--Dmon (talk) 12:17, 8 October 2020 (EDT)

Dmon, I'll try to look into them and see what I can do!--MacElfrish (talk) 11:11, 9 October 2020 (EDT)
