It just had to be said: You've pretty much come out of nowhere and right off the bat contributed edits of the highest quality, the kind usually only seen from seasoned veterans. Clearly you have significant wiki experience and are also very knowledgeable about BattleTech. Very happy that you found our little site and decided to contribute. :Thanks for letting me know. I was troubleshooting an issue where the image on [[50th Shadow Division]] wasn't obeying the size specification, and used InfoBoxStateUnit only because that's what was already in the article. I'll take care to use the preferred template in the future, and try to update the ones I see that are deprecated. Drakøns changes

Ok, so I am curious. Is there some benefit to changing the wikilinks for the Drakøns rather than letting the redirects do the work?--Dmon (talk) 13:38, 4 August 2020 (EDT)

The links, not really I suppose. I used to work in a wiki where Special:WhatLinksHere for the page wouldn't show you links from redirects, among other things, so there were small benefits to eliminating redirects. I developed the habit of adjusting links to avoid redirects while I was fixing other style issues, which is what I was about with Drakons/Drakøns and their ordinals in the text. Sarna is the only wiki I have ever worked on so pretty much all wiki code I know is what I have picked up here. A nice feature we have is that out redirects show up in whatlinkshere.--Dmon (talk) 14:27, 4 August 2020 (EDT)
Yeah, that seems to be standard wiki technology now, but old habits and whatnot. Improvements like that can be a double-edged sword, where suddenly I'm the most out-of-date component. :) Tosta Dojen (talk) 14:42, 4 August 2020 (EDT)

Comments to me regarding my edits

Tosta Dojen, thank you for your commentary. I let my emotions get the best of me, and you are right to correct me. I will endeavor to keep my notes on the content only, from here forward. You're right -- the community is important, and I have no interest in putting anyone down or making them feel bad.

Thanks again. Constructive criticism received. TheVengeant (talk) 17:13, 22 August 2020 (EDT)

Follow up semi-related question: how do we flag articles for needing work? Take the Battle of Northwind section of the 5th Deneb Light Cavalry page. It's a giant block o text! Needs chopping up and almost certainly (though I haven't read through it yet) will need some editing for quality. Thanks in advance! TheVengeant (talk) 17:19, 22 August 2020 (EDT)

The most common method is to flag the article with the {{cleanup}} tag. Help:Cleanup is your guide on the subject. I also recommend having a look at the template gallery, which features other tags that can be used for more specific issues, like {{refimprove}} and {{verylong}}. Some of these are reported out on the BattleTechWiki:ToDo list as current issues that need to be addressed. Tosta Dojen (talk) 15:19, 23 August 2020 (EDT)

InfoBoxStateUnit

Since you've just used the InfoBoxStateUnit in your sandbox, I should probably point out that this infobox is obsolete and deprecated. (Only the sheer number of articles is keeping it alive.) Same with InfoBoxMercUnit. See Template talk:InfoBoxMercUnit#Merge with InfoBoxStateUnit. The new summary infobox to be used is Template:InfoBoxMilitaryCommand.
