== Articles that need to be renamed ==
+
===Clan Characters===
 +
The issue of multiple characters sharing the same name is further exacerbated for [[Clan]] characters, since except for [[Bloodnamed]] warriors, most members of the Clans will only have a first name. Accordingly in the first instance there is the issue of how to refer to various types of unblooded Clan characters, and then secondly how to distinguish articles for Clan characters who share the same name.

The majority of articles that need to be renamed have a surname of Wolf (https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Category:Clan_Wolf_Characters?from=W). With the exception of Jaime, Joshua and Alaric, these articles only have the Wolf surname to disambiguate them from other Clan warrior articles that happen to share the same first name, sometimes even the same Clan and phenotype.
+
The primary rule for naming unblooded Clan characters is to use any surname explicitly mentioned for the character within a canonical source. This may include names like:

As per https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Policy:Article_Naming#Clan_Characters, Clan character article titles have a pretty well defined disambiguation process that does not include adding a non canon surname.
+
* [[Zane Nova Cat]] (i.e. First Name and Clan Name) which is used for certain [[Abtakha]] warriors, [[freebirth]]s or other unblooded characters during some historical periods such as the [[Dark Age]].

For articles with Wolf surnames that are properly disambiguated per above policy, the parent article with no surname may also need to be properly disambiguated as well.
+
* [[Vlad Ward|Vlad of the Wards]] (i.e. First Name of the Bloodhouse) which is used by some [[trueborn]] warriors if they have not won a bloodname.

* An example of an article that has a non canon surname attached would be [[Zasser Wolf]].
+
* [[Peri|Peri Watson]] or [[Igmar Ohlson]] (i.e. First Name and a Surname not officially recognised by the Clans), such as a [[Labname]] or an [[Inner Sphere]] freebirth’s surname from before they joined the Clans.
* Examples of articles with no surname that needs to be properly disambiguated [[Zasser]] and [[Zasser (Clan Wolf)]]

All three articles are for Clan Wolf warriors that served at roughly the same time, but are not the same character.
+
Where no surname is mentioned, the secondary rule is that where the character is a trueborn and their bloodhouse is mentioned, a name in the form of [[Elo of the Dudzinsky]] (i.e. First Name of the Bloodhouse) should be used. For all other Clan characters, the first given name only should be used, and no assumption should be made about any unmentioned surname they may be entitled to. For example while some freebirth characters are refer to by their Clan’s name such as [[Kandari Falcon]], this practice was not consistent across different Clans or [[Eras]].

* First one should have article title of "Zasser (279th Battle)"
+
In the instances where multiple characters share the same name, they should be distinguished in order by:
* Second one should have article title of "Zasser (aerospace pilot)"

* Third one should have article title of "Zasser (3rd Battle)"

There are of course other articles with the Wolf surname that need to be retitled, Zasser was just picked out as an example of what needs to be changed. Due to the volume of articles impacted, it will be challenging to come up with a definitive list of impacted articles, and what their names should be changed to.
+
* Their last known Clan, in the format First Name (Clan Name), such as [[Brin (Clan Smoke Jaguar)]] or [[Brin (Clan Jade Falcon)]].

As an aside, I wouldn't be surprised if the same problem crops up when the Jade Falcon Sourcebook is mined for data.
+
* Where their Clan is shared, by the century of most notable activity, in the format First Name (Clan Name – XXth c.)

[[Special:Contributions/75.23.228.139|75.23.228.139]] 12:09, 31 August 2022 (EDT)
+
* Where Clan and century are shared, by their phenotype (i.e. [[Elemental]], [[MechWarrior (pilot)|MechWarrior]], [[aerospace fighter]] etc) or [[Caste]] (i.e. scientist, technician, merchant, laborer etc), for example [[Frayne (Elemental)]].

: Noted. I'll work through them on the weekend.--[[User:HF22|HF22]] ([[User talk:HF22|talk]]) 05:50, 1 September 2022 (EDT)
+
* Where Clan, century and phenotype / caste are shared, by their last known military unit or other distinguishing characteristic, for example [[Scott (115th Striker)]].
: Ok, all the Wolf Surnamed ones are done now.--[[User:HF22|HF22]] ([[User talk:HF22|talk]]) 07:36, 2 September 2022 (EDT)

== DA Governors ==
+
The '''<nowiki>{{Otheruses}}</nowiki>''' tag should also be employed on each article to lead users to the other characters with the same name.

Hey HF22,

Just a quick one as I am in work, just wanted to give you a heads up to be extra careful doing the DA governors as the sources sometimes get the governor and legate switched.--[[User:Dmon|Dmon]] ([[User talk:Dmon|talk]]) 08:13, 28 February 2023 (EST)

: Noted. I think I have most of the references to them on hand and indexed, so I should be able to catch where there is confusion, but I'll keep an extra eye out for it.--[[User:HF22|HF22]] ([[User talk:HF22|talk]]) 03:26, 1 March 2023 (EST)

::All good, It has been on my to do list for some time to compare the two primary sources but it kept slipping down the list. I think I have done all the DA governors that show up in the novels and later sourcebooks but I have not done the legates at all.--[[User:Dmon|Dmon]] ([[User talk:Dmon|talk]]) 07:08, 1 March 2023 (EST)
