Michael Church was a Federated Suns naval officer and leader of the Church Expedition in 2789.[1]

History[edit]

With the Star League Defense Force vanished from the Inner Sphere and the Draconis Combine well on its way to conquering the Federated Suns, Commodore Church was ordered by First Prince John Davion to head out into the Deep Periphery in order to find and convince Aleksandr Kerensky to aid in the Federated Suns' salvation. Church, dispatched in 2789, commanded a small naval group comprised of the Monolith-class FSS Amber Rose and numerous supporting JumpShips, DropShips, aerospace fighters, and long-range surveillance shuttles. Church's orders also contained numerous incentives to bring the SLDF back to the Inner Sphere, although what these incentives were was eventually lost to history.[1]

Leaving the Federated Suns from the world of Pitkin, Church's group quietly passed through the Outworlds Alliance before picking up the trail of Kerensky's exodus near the Antallos system. Church managed to track Kerensky to the distant Gutara system by 2791, where a small population of Rim Worlds Republic refugees confirmed that the SLDF had indeed passed through the area before continuing on to parts unknown. Unfortunately for Church's group, Kerensky's trail grew cold not long after they departed Gutara. Three more months of blind searching followed but, with few supplies remaining, Church's expeditionary group conceded defeat and began their journey home.[1]
