In 3028, on the eve of the Fourth Succession War, Carlyle's Gray Death Legion discovered the Helm Star League Library Core on planet Helm in the Free Worlds League. Carlyle is acknowledged as the Father of 31st century Warfare due to his ability to use combined-arms tactics to great effect. Prior to his death he piloted a Victor, but it is mentioned that he used a Marauder before that.

He married Lori Kalmar and they had a son, Alexander, together.
