Description
The Eris began as an attempt by Nashan Diversified to branch out of IndustrialMechs and into BattleMechs along with the Inner Sphere's other major BattleMech manufacturers. It was originally called the Hel, but the LCAF rejected the design, and Nashan Diversified was only able to sell a few to mercenaries and independent worlds before Defiance Industries stopped supplying Nashan with some necessary components. The specifications for the Hel were sold to Kallon Weapon Industries, who went on to redesign the 'Mech as a skirmisher ideally suited for the sort of fighting that was going on in the former Free Worlds League following the end of the Jihad.[2]
Weapons and Equipment
The armament of the Eris was very similar to that of the Wolverine, which was also manufactured by Kallon. As such, they tried to distinguish the design by adding a Partial Wing, which improved its mobility in rough terrain and also allowed them to market it as a competitor to the Phoenix Hawk being sold by Earthwerks. The PPC and lasers that the Hel had used were replaced with superior versions with lower outputs, and the Hel's Streak SRMs were replaced with MMLs.[2]
Variants
- ERS-2H
- This variant was functionally identical to the Hel, and became popular after Clan Wolf conquered Thermopolis.[2]
- ERS-3R
- Designed to act as a heavy striker and interdictor, this variant replaced the MMLs with Rocket Launchers and added an Angel ECM Suite, as well as additional armor.[2]
