I'm pretty sure this game came out after MW2 and MW2:GBL. This page says it was a "prequal" to MW2. If I remember correctly, I heard that Activision was granted a license to make a game called MechWarrior 2, and they squeezed this license to make essentially three games by calling them all "Mechwarrior 2", and that "Mercenaries" was the last one they were able to do this with.
