Colonel Chia Samrin was the commander of the Star League Defense Force's Fortieth Dragoon Regiment as of 2764.[1]
History
Samrin's Fortieth Dragoon were used as XXXVI Corps's mobile hammer, responding to threats as they arose. However it was ill-equipped to the hit-and-fade raiding common on the Draconis Combine - Lyran Commonwealth border where it was assigned, leading to Colonel Samrin being critiqued by his superiors and peers for causing excessive collateral damage to civilians.
This came to a head following Samrin's assault on the Hand Vrijheid terrorist stronghold of Nieuwegeinon on Utrecht, which flattened a cities downtown area with massive civilian casualties, without having a material adverse impact on the terrorist's operations. Colonel Samrin was subsequently ordered by his Corps' CO Major General Rebecca Rhodes, over his own objections, to stand down and cease responding to emerging threats in preference to other SLDF units.[1]
