The Forty-third Royal Light Horse Regiment was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army. It was one of the SLDF's Royal units, which consisted of troops from the Terran Hegemony.

History

Reunification War

The Forty-third Royal Light Horse Regiment was a part of the 1st Royal Division in 2578, one of three divisions that made up I Corps, and was one of the first units to see combat in the Reunification War when the 1st Royal Division was assigned to attack the Taurian Concordat world of Ridgebrook in mid-May 2578. The Forty-third spent four months fighting against the determined Taurian defenders, who had turned the Goldenridge Mountains into a series of defensive fortresses garrisoned with a significant armor force and a lot of heavy gun and missile artillery batteries. While the outcome of the campaign was never really in doubt, the Taurians continued to resist, with the vast majority of the defenders fighting until killed.[1]

After Ridgebrook had been pacified I Corps would be redeployed to take Wrentham, but before being moved I Corps received a number of battlefield casualty replacements; amongst these was Nicholas Cameron, the second child of First Lord Ian Cameron and Lady Shandra Noruff-Cameron, who joined the Forty-third under an assumed name and complete with a bodyguard consisting of special forces personnel.[2]

Steeds of Nicholas

After it became common knowledge that Nicholas Cameron was serving in the Regiment they became know as the Steeds of Nicholas.[3].

In 2600 the Regiment was posted to Badlands hunting Concordat rebels. Nicolas was wounded on two occasions when his Rifleman came under fire, the second time he lost an arm and nearly lost his life.[3]

Hegemony Campaign

In 2764, the unit was assigned, as a part of the XLIII Corps, Seventeenth Army, of the Periphery Military Region but was moved to an undisclosed area of the Periphery to take part in the Periphery Uprising by 2765[4].

Exodus

The 43rd survived the war and the Hegemony Campaign, and followed General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus in 2784[4].

Composition History

As an SLDF Light Horse regiment the Forty-third would have been composed of light to medium vehicles backed up by at least two Recon companies composed of 'Mechs designed for information gathering in addition to any regular 'Mechs within the regiment.[5]
