The Dieron Regulars' attack on Apostica ultimately failed when the Lyran forces, though taking heavy losses, destroyed the attacking Combine 'Mechs. Nonetheless, the Lyran Commonwealth failed to develop an improved UMU system.[27]

In 3142, Apostica became the site of one of Malvina Hazen's most infamous atrocities. While the planet's garrison had surrendered to Clan Jade Falcon, local resistance fighters continued operating against the Clan. Khan Hazen responded by poisoning the desert world's aquifers with plutonium, condemning Apostica's population to a slow death from either radiation poisoning or dehydration, though several civilian vessels were allowed to escape the planet to spread word of the deed. This brutal employment of Hazen's Mongol Doctrine succeeded in terrorizing other Lyran worlds nearby into total surrender.[28][29][30]
