Planetary History

Dark Age

On May 12th, 3090, border skirmishes between the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine came to a head on Apostica. Elements of the Eighth Dieron Regulars attacked an underwater Lyran research station where the ISF believed the Lyrans were reverse-engineering captured Blakist improved jump jet technology to develop an improved UMU, with orders to capture or destroy it. The Dieron Regulars' attack on Apostica ultimately failed when the Lyran forces, though taking heavy losses, destroyed the attacking Combine 'Mechs. Nonetheless, the Lyran Commonwealth failed to develop an improved UMU system.[27]

In 3142 Apostica became the site of one of Malvina Hazen's most infamous atrocities. While the planet's garrison had surrendered to the Jade Falcons, local resistance fighters continued operating against the Clan. Khan Hazen responded by poisoning the desert world's aquifers with plutonium, condemning Apostica's population to a slow death from either radiation poisoning or dehydration, though several civilian vessels were allowed to escape the planet to spread word of the deed. This brutal employment of Hazen's Mongol Doctrine succeeded in terrorizing other Lyran worlds nearby into total surrender.[28] [29] [30]

Geography

Apostica was a hot and dry desert world, whose population was dispersed across small settlements built into underground caves or shelters. The planet had few villages or cities. Most of Apostica's water was drawn from offworld comet mining, with the rest found in eighty-three main aquifers.[30]
