The Homing Missile is treated as a standard artillery attack, except it ignores to-hit rolls and only attacks units successfully hit by a TAG. If no target is tagged by the time the missile arrives, the missile will explode in midair, harmlessly. This type of missile can't target a hex when fired immediately however, they are aimed at a mapsheet instead. In rare cases, the missile can't "find" the mapsheet (a roll of less than 4) and the missile is lost. In all other cases the player then rolls a pair of dice and, on a successful roll, deals full damage to the target unit as though it was a direct fire weapon, like an [[Autocannon]] and area-effect damage to all other units within the hex. This damage is rolled relative to the unit tagging the target, regardless of where the missile came from: An Arrow fired "at" the front arc of a 'Mech, with a spotter tagging the rear arc of the 'Mech, will hit the 'Mech in its rear arc once it lands. An unsuccessful roll deals only area-effect damage to all units within the hex.<ref name="TOp353+"/>
