Description

Crosscut is a popular used LoggerMech which has been dominating commerical foresty, praised for operating effectively in woodlands. The Crosscut and other IndustrialMechs need considerable amount of skill to pilot. Some mechwarrior academies consider them good training mechs and employ them to teach their cadets. Some planetary militias jiggy-rig weaponary on these mechs for combat.

Originally created by Eden Corporation of Terra, the design was licenced out to various Inner Sphere factories, allowing the design to survive Eden's destruction of during the Amaris Coup.

Capacities

Equipt with a large Chain Saw in place of a right hand actuator. A Cargo Hoist mounted on it back to allow it carry additional cargo with left claw. The mech's Turbine ICE engine allows the mech achieve top speed of 64.4 kilometers per hour.

Variants

  • Fusion Powered Crosscut - During the Star League Era, some Crosscuts were equipt with Fusion Engines. However, military scavangers have stripped fusion engines from these mechs, thus making them very rare.
  • Dual-Chainsaw Crosscut - This variant is a custom order design, which is typically used for demolition.

Notes

Prior to the Technical Readout: Vehicle Annex publication, early version of the Crosscut had been introducted named the ForestryMech. The design differs in stats from this mech. Originally created for the MechWarrior: Dark Age collectable game. Stats for ForestryMech Classic Battletech were released in Record Sheets: Mechwarrior Dark Age I. It not clear if Crosscut and ForestryMech are one in the same design that has corrected stats or seperately designs. A notable difference in the two is that the ForestryMech only 25 tons could only to top speed of 50 kph.

Two record sheets of mech were created for Record Sheets: Mechwarrior Dark Age I:

  • ForestryMech - Equipt with only a Chain Saw with standard battlemech armor.
  • ForestryMech MOD - this design is equiped with AC/2 w/1 ton ammunnition, chainsaw and more standard battlemech armor than unarm variant.

In original publication of the Ghost War novel by Michael Stackpole, a mini-Technical Readout was submitted named Techical Readout 3130. This included Forestry Mech with equipt with LB5-X autocannon which had 125 rating ICE engine that could move this mech top speed of 80 kph. Which accordance to the 'mech construction rules, is too heavy for the design to carry.
