'''Eddie Katsumori''' was a member of the Sumiyama-''kai'', one of the [[yakuza]] gangs operating on [[Hachiman]] in the [[thirty-first century]]. By September [[3056]], Eddie was at least a ''chunin'' - subleader - within the Suriyama-''kai'' in Masamori, the planetary capital city.<ref name="CQp75">''Close Quarters'', p. 75, "Chapter 15"</ref>

In physical terms, Eddie was a giant among the local yakuza, wider and more heavily built than the average, with skin the color of Hachiman ebony and red hair the color of rust. Having reached the rank of ''chunin'', Eddie was entitled to wear his hair in a samurai topknot, and was a common patron in the Kit Kat Klub, a yakuza bar and strip club; while he wasn't particularly high-ranking in the Sumiyama-''kai'' at the time, he was the highest-ranking member to regularly patronise the Klub - effectively, the biggest fish in a small pond.<ref name="CQp75"/>

As a part of her information-gathering efforts in Masamori [[Lieutenant|Lieutenant Junior Grade]] [[Cassiopeia Suthorn|Cassie "Abtakha" Suthorn]] of the mercenary [[17th Recon Regiment|Seventeenth Recon Regiment]] manipulated Eddie and another member of the local yakuza, [[Peter Malloy]], to secure a position in the Kit Kat Klub. She went on to use that position to gather information and human intelligence for the Seventeenth.<ref name="CQp75"/>
