George Hawthorne was, until his death in 3067, a cadet at the Nellus Academy.

History[edit]

At Nellus Academy, George was, by 3067, top of his class in piloting.[1]

In October 3067, George was part of a group of eight top Nellus Academy cadets sent on what was meant to be a straightforward voyage to Concord with General Gurald Eichner, in theory as a public relations event in honor of Nestor's new refueling station. Less openly, the cadets were meant to help detect a Lyran spy operating at the Nestor spaceport.[2] After setting off on the Requirement on 21 October, Eichner and the cadets ran into trouble: hijackers, the Lyran-hired Bloody Stoats, who came to capture the general.[3]

As part of broader resistance by the cadets, George and his boyfriend Rustin Lake seized the DropShip's cockpit by force, but made the mistake of allowing one of the hijacking pilots to live and help George land. The hijacker shot George, and while Rustin killed the hijacker, this left the DropShop on course for a crash landing on Phobos, a planetoid in the Gienah system.[4] George died of his injuries sustained in the struggle and crash.[5] His fellow cadets buried his body on Phobos.[6]
