History[edit]

The Battle for Twycross[edit]

John Cicero was a career military man who had taken command of the Twycross Tamar March Militia, or Twycross TMM, on Twycross with the expectation of the position being a quiet garrison posting for his final years of service before retiring. However, the Clan Invasion of 3050 changed those plans.

On June 2, 3050, Clan Jade Falcon forces entered the Twycross system. Star Colonel Adler Malthus of the Falcon Guards would issue a batchall, or battle challenge, to the defenders of Twycross at that time, but John Cicero would refuse to respond. Paranoia, fear and outlandish theories of the Clans and their intentions had been spreading across the Inner Sphere for months prior to their arrival at Twycross. Cicero's refusal was from a mix of that fear and honest confusion about Clans. Cicero, the aging warrior, would be forced to take up arms one last time.

Within 24 hours of the Falcon's landing at the Plain of Curtains, Cicero had his forces deployed and surrounding the invading forces. On paper, he outnumbered his adversaries in BattleMechs and other equipment. But, most of his troops were inexperienced and using outdated equipment. As the Falcons began their assault, it soon turned into a rout as the Clan's superior equipment and training forced the Federated Commonwealth units back with heavy losses.

Over the next several days, the Falcon's would advance towards the starport at the city of Camora. The Falcon tendency to push forward without scouting the ground ahead of them allowed the Twycross TMM to put up organized resistance at key points such as the Hawkroost wilderness. However, all these forces could do was delay the inevitable and give Cicero the time he needed to prepare his last stand.

John Cicero would order the evacuation of Twycross while remnants of his forces would hold the passes outside of Camora to the last man. This final stand allowed many civilians and vital technical data on the Clan war machines to escape offworld before the Falcon's broke through and took the city. General Cicero would be evacuated on the last DropShip to leave Twycross and would later collapse from exhaustion.

Aftermath[edit]

While the final fate of John Cicero is unknown at this time, the information he and his troops gathered during the fighting on Twycross allowed Victor Steiner-Davion and Kai Allard-Liao to plan a successful counter attack against the Jade Falcons on Twycross in September 3050.[1]
