'''John Marik-Johns''' was the second child of Chloe Jade Marik and Colonel Bart Johns, a highly capable staff officer with the [[Second Dismal Disinherited]]. It was expected for him to follow his fathers and older sister footsteps and enter into service with the [[Dismal Disinherited]]. But Marik-Johns had his own ideas and decided to follow its own path. He attended the [[Allison MechWarrior Institute]] where he was shocked by the rampant anti-[[Marik]] sentiments he found there (shielded as he had been by his mother while growing up; never aware that such strong feelings could run so deep on the [[Free Worlds League]]).<ref name=KPB>''Kings and Pawns'', p. 14 (John Marik-Johns profile)</ref>

Upon graduation, he was assigned to the [[Second Regulan Hussars]]. While the details of his service are sketchy, it is
known that he resigned his commission after the [[Gibson]] incident of [[3055]], passing on an opportunity for advancement in the chastised unit and choosing to go back to the Dismal Disinherited, continuing the long-standing tradition of the Johns' family service to the unit.<ref name=KPB/>

===Jihad===
Since accepting employment with the [[Third Dismal Disinherited]], Marik-Johns has shown himself not only an outstanding MechWarrior, but also a superior staff officer with a knack for logistics. His talents as a staff officer caught the attention of Colonel [[Jaime Wolf]] of [[Wolf's Dragoons]], who has since become his mentor and close friend. Estranged from his father, he remains close with his mother and older sister, who both encourage his work with the Allied Mercenary Command.

Following the formation of the [[Allied Mercenary Command]] to combat the spread of [[Word of Blake]] influence in what was now the [[Chaos March]], the 3rd Dismal Disinherited regiment was sent to [[Hall]] by the AMC to support the [[Com Guards|Com Guard]] troops already on planet to ward off against Blakist operations and investigate suspected ties between [[William Baranov]] and the [[Word of Blake]]. Then in the summer of [[3067]], Emperor Baranov announced that he had invited the Free Worlds League to annex Hall, hence undermining the positions of both the Com Guards and the AMC troops on planet and legally forcing all those forces aligned against him to withdraw off world.

Combat again broke out when the 3rd Dismal Disinherited refused to recognize the authority of the [[4th Oriente Hussars]] which had arrived on Hall to officially annex the planet on behalf of the Free Worlds League. Convinced the whole thing was a Blakist ploy, Colonel Marik-Johns commanded his 3rd Dismal Disinherited and Burton's Brigade to attack the 4th Oriente Hussars who were in turn supported by Emperor Baranov's troops including the Fourth Republican Guards and the [[Stealthy Tigers]]. The Third managed to escape from Hall, and reappeared on [[Talitha]] in [[3069]] when they attempted to raid the Blakist forces on the planet. Unfortunately for the Third, the Blakists and their mercenary hirelings were too strong for the Third, overpowering them and destroying them before they could escape offworld.
