Lostech

Lostech refers to technological advances that existed during the Star League era that were lost in the Succession Wars that followed. In the pre-Clan invasion period (from 2785 until roughly 3030), understanding of technology that powered the BattleMechs, JumpShips, and DropShips was poorly understood. Even though the understanding was lost, the knowledge of how to use the technology remained. That knowledge could, however, take on a more religious bent in some circles. In ComStar, for example, it was common for adepts to believe that prayer was responsible for the proper operation of the organization's HyperPulse Generators.

Several research facilities were established in an effort to recover some of the lost technologies. The process was helped along significantly following the recovery of a Star League library core on the planet Helm by the Gray Death Legion and its subsequent dissemination throughout the Inner Sphere in 3028. When the Clans invaded in 3050, the Inner Sphere became highly motivated to recover lost Star League technology.
