Description

The Mastodon is an Assault OmniMech originally built by the Rasalhague Dominion and its Clan Ghost Bear brethren.[1]

Spurred by the Clan Hell's Horses invasion of 3147, this unusually ponderous design marks a shift in the Dominion's preferred combat doctrine, previously focused around swift, agile attackers. The result is a powerful, resilient Omnimech capable of filling both defensive and heavy assault roles.[1]

Built by Jötunn BattleWorx of Goito and walking off production lines in 3148, the Mastodon was built to weather whatever its enemy could possibly throw at it. A steadfast assault platform, its 285-rated Extra-Light Engine gives it fairly typical mobility for a 'Mech of its role, while its 15 and a half tons of IceSheet Ferro-Fibrous Armor along with 45 tons of pod space ensures it can withstand heavy punishment while dishing out the same in return.[1]

Weapons and Equipment

The design's Prime Configuration is geared towards long range firepower, which comes in the form of a powerful ER PPC in each arm as well as a pair of Streak LRM-20s, one mounted in each side torso. These weapons are supplied by four tons of CASE II-protected ammunition, distributed between both side torsos. Nineteen Double Heat Sinks ensure the 'Mech runs cool, even after a full alpha strike.[3]

Alternate Configurations

  • Alternate Configuration A
Equipped with long range weaponry, this configuration's main armament is a Gauss Rifle carried in the right arm and fed by 2 tons of ammo. Additionally, it carries an LRM-15 linked to an Artemis IV fire control system in the right torso, calling upon 2 tons of CASE II-protected ammo, stored with it. These are all backed up by 3 large pulse lasers in the left arm. To offset the added heat from this weapons load, it carries 5 extra double heat sinks. BV(2.0) = 2,856[3]
  • Alternate Configuration B
Carrying an LBX-20 in the left arm, close range firepower is the name of the game. It is linked to 3 tons of CASE II-protected ammo in the left torso along with a pair of Streak SRM-4s in the right arm which combined only draw on a single ton of ammo. Recognising the need for softening up of a target while closing the distance, a Streak LRM-20 was added in the right torso with 2 tons of ammo stowage. Finally, it is rounded out and backed up by 4 medium pulse lasers in the right arm, and 4 double heat sinks to prevent heat issues. BV (2.0) = 2,793[3]
  • Alternate Configuration C
Another Juggernaut of the original four Configurations, the Charlie relies on energy weapons versus ballistics of the Beta. Its primary weapon is a Gauss Rifle, its 16 rounds of ammo are fitted in right torso. For general combat, the left arm houses an ER PPC, with 4 ER Medium Lasers in the left torso. For anti-vehicle / infantry purposes, the right torso houses three fiery Plasma Cannons with their 30 rounds of ammo. Eight additional Double Heat Sinks added as well BV (2.0) = 3,092[3]
  • Alternate Configuration D
Intended as fire support configuration, the Delta comes with four LRM-15 launchers, a pair of the launchers fitted to each of the 'Mech's arms, and two LRM-20 launchers, one per torso. All 88 volleys of missile are split between the side torso missile bays and single ton per arm. Not completely dependent on the Launchers, four additional Medium Pulse Lasers are added, split between each of the arms. BV (2.0) = [3]
