Michael Ryan was a Sho-sa in the Draconis Combine military, specifically a member of DEST. He was one of the few men of non-Japanese descent to be given command of a Draconis Elite Strike Team, having been carefully schooled in the subtleties of Combine society, particularly in regards to its military.
Ryan survived the loyalty inquiry after Coordinator Theodore Kurita's assassination attempt in 3058. He and DEST Team Six were later chosen to escort the Coordinator to the conference on Tharkad.
