Overview

A Recorder Unit was a special implant designed to be used in conjunction with bionic or cybernetic eyes and ears to record images or sounds. Implanted in the agent's chest so that a simple X-ray scan would dismiss it as something innocuous like a medical monitoring device, the recorder recevied signals from the agent's sensory implants via wireless connection. When connected to an agents eyes the recorder could save six hours of soundless video, while connection with the ears could save twelve hours of audio. When full the recorder is able to eject a data disk through a flap of skin near the device and receive a new empty one the same way.[1]

Only members of the intelligence agencies of the Great Houses had access to these implants, and attempting to acquire them on the black market was extremely difficult. Even if the surgery necessary to implant the device was successful there was a chance the agent's body would reject the implant, which would require a second more dangerous surgical procedure, or a chance of permanent disability or madness. Due to the metabolic demands of the implant the agent also suffered from chronic headaches which required constant medication every six hours (and resulted in many becoming addicted to the painkillers). Treatment and recovery time for wounds sustained to the implanted area was also more difficult.[1]

Among the Manei Domini this upgrade was available to all agents and up to two could be implanted.[2]

Notes

In RPG play a Recorder Unit has the equipment rating D/C/F, costs 5,000 and has a duration of 6 hours video or 12 hours audio on a looping track.[1] These implants have no effect in CBT play.[2]
