Colonel Robert C. Fairchild was the commander of the 151st Light Horse Regiment ("Dark Horse Regiment"), and its Regimental Command Company ("Fairchild's Guards"), of the Eridani Light Horse from 3024.[1][2]

Fairchild was promoted to command the 151st Light Horse Regiment in 3024, replacing Nathan Armstrong, becoming at 41 years-old in 3025 the youngest of the Eridani Light Horse's three regimental commanders then in office.
Soon after his promotion, he was considered a capable officer, who while rather quiet, could make bold and controversial decisions. In a unit known for its respect for tradition, Fairchild was a notable proponent for change and reform. At that time Fairchild was a close friend of the Light Horse' Federated Suns liaison officer Major Robert Green-Davion, who he considered an excellent officer, despite divergent views about the matter amongst Eridani personnel.[2]
