With access to many star systems, Shitara was ideally placed to serve as a waystation and refueling point for expeditions into the further reaches of the Inner Sphere. With exploration and transportation in mind, a consortium of companies funded the initial exploration and colonization of the world. With arid grasslands and deserts covering most of its surface, and fresh water a rare commodity, these early colonies faced a tough challenge.
