==Overview==
The '''Trinity Alliance''' is a mutual protection and nonaggression pact between the [[Capellan Confederation]], the [[Taurian Concordat]], and the [[Magistracy of Canopus]], signed in August of [[3058]]. It ended soon after [[3067]] when the Taurian Concordat withdrew and began accepting [[Word of Blake]] aid against the [[Federated Suns]].

On the surface, the alliance was proposed by [[Chancellor]] [[Sun-Tzu Liao]] as a means to advance the technology and internal capabilities of both the Concordat and Magistracy.  Beneath the surface, the Alliance was orchestrated as a power-play by Chancellor Sun-Tzu to tip the balance of power within the [[Inner Sphere]] in his favor:

* Mutual defense of the three realms allowed the Confederation to increase the size of its military, in particular by utilizing Canopian troops during the [[Capellan-St. Ives War]].
* A strengthened Taurian Concordat and Magistracy of Canopus would be a thorn in the sides of the [[Federated Suns]] and [[Free Worlds League]], respectively.
* And within the [[Second Star League]], the new voting block of three realms eased the possibility of passing motions favoring Chancellor Sun-Tzu's policies.

However, there were some drawbacks for the Capellan Confederation. With the signing of the Alliance, it became impossible for Sun-Tzu to play the two Periphery powers against each other. He also had to listen to their concerns and address them if he wished to keep their support.<ref>''Handbook: Major Periphery States'', p. 60</ref> The technology transferred from the Confederation to the Magistracy and Concordat allowed the factory world of [[Detroit]] to be developed in a short period of time.<ref>''Handbook: Major Periphery States'', p. 62</ref>

Interestingly, a similar scheme was proposed by a previous [[Capellan]] Chancellor.  Chancellor [[Arden Baxter]] of the nascent [[Capellan Confederation]] proposed the "[[Thousand-World Coalition]]" in [[2422]]. Negotiations for the Trinity Alliance began in [[3058]].<ref>''Handbook: Major Periphery States'', p. 57</ref> Some Magistracy forces were used in [[Operation BULLDOG]], and the Magestrix lost her daughter, [[Danai Centrella]] during the [[Great Refusal]]. This led to several Magistracy news sources questioning the value of the Trinity Alliance.<ref>''Handbook: Major Periphery States'', p. 62</ref> 

Though a full partner in [[3062]] the Taurian Concordat actually delayed participation per the wishes of [[Protector of the Realm|Protector]] [[Jeffrey Calderon]]. ==Notes==
A joint project of the three states was the development of [[Trinity]] class armor, but as the Alliance itself, is very significant the fact than the three states give money to develop the armor, but it was only built by the Capellan state, who refused to share the technology with his allies, instead selling them the suits, until the Taurians and Canopians managed to reverse engineer them.
