Both Stanislov and Josef Honda had been working on a nanotube project around a decade prior to 3073 in collaboration with Defiance Industries R&D department as well as the New Avalon Institute of Science. Though the Jihad stopped collaboration with the NAIS and discrepancies on how this would impact BattleMech construction ended with Defiance leaving the project (their side led by Dr. Ursula Gunn), they both claimed that their results proved that there would be an increase in protection.
