Benson Yuli was a notable warrior in the First Screaming Eagles mercenary regiment during the Fourth Succession War.[1]

History[edit]

MechWarrior Yuli and the First Screaming Eagles, serving under Colonel Opson Mathis, were assigned with taking the northern continent of the Capellan world of New Canton from the defending First Battalion of the Fourth Confederation Reserve Cavalry in late 3028. The fighting against the Capellans was difficult and their habit of fading into New Canton's jungles after every assault enraged Colonel Mathis. After the Fourth CRC unit was cornered at a washed out river crossing and chose to surrender rather than perish, Mathis decided to get revenge at the expense of the unit's Federated Suns contract and the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns' code of honor. Mathis had the Capellan cavalrymen sealed inside of their BattleMechs and pushed into the Canton River to drown, much to the horror of the First Eagles' supporting FedSuns infantry.[1]

The commander of one of these supporting units, Colonel Roberta Gathos of the Seventh Almach Foot Soldiers, immediately ordered Mathis to stand down and surrender himself to her custody. Tensions between the mercenaries and their employers skyrocketed and for a brief few moments it appeared that fighting between the two would break out, until Yuli abandoned his comrades to stand alongside Gathos' Foot Soldiers. Heeding his example, the rest of the First Eagles deserted their commander and Mathis was left with no choice but to give himself to Gathos for investigation and judgement. Gathos appointed Yuli as temporary commander of the First Eagles until the brigade's overall commander Walther Hokala could decide Mathis' fate.[1]
