Major C.H.G. "Charger" Keller was an officer and MechWarrior with the Waco Rangers in the thirty-first century.[1][2]

History[edit]

C.H.G. Keller first joined the Waco Rangers in 3009 as a lance commander and was promoted to company commander in 3012. When the Third Reserve Battalion was formed six years later in 3018, he was selected to be its commander.[2] He still commanded the Third in 3025, also known as "Keller's Reserve Battalion," as well as its Headquarters Company and Command Lance ("Keller's Headquarters Company" and "Keller's Command Lance," respectively).[1]

Keller's rise was helped by his uncanny judgement of tactical situations, which exceeded that of even Colonel Wayne Waco, and he was the go-to source within the Rangers for questions on 'Mech combat or tactics. His unit was especially trained in urban warfare, riverline assaults, low-gravity combat, and other unusual operations.[2]

Mara[edit]

As a company commander in 3014, his battlefield experience included a raid on the Federated Suns world of Mara while under contract with the Draconis Combine. His company landed unsupported due to aerospace fighters from the Third Ceti Hussars delaying the DropShips of the other Rangers units. This resulted in Keller's Company being battered by the Hussars until further Rangers units could land.[3]

Bowen's Arrow[edit]

In early 3024, Bowen Kincaid contracted out the Waco Rangers' reserve battalion under the command of C.H.G. Keller on a short-term basis while he searched for his family's famed Archer, nicknamed Agincourt, which he wanted to destroy before it could be found by Jake Mason and his Cavaliers mercenary unit, to whom his father had bequeathed it to after he died.[4]

Major Keller's forces were late arriving at a decommissioned base on Bernardo where the Agincourt was once stored, encountering strong resistance from the Cavaliers and forced to withdraw. Luckily for them, it was actually hidden in a city on Berenson and Keller was able to set up a forward operating base and dig in before the Cavaliers arrived. It mattered little, as the Cavaliers overran their defenses and found the 'Mech, killing Bowen Kincaid in the process. With his death, the Waco Rangers withdrew from the field.[4]

Hyperion[edit]

In mid-3024, Keller led his battalion as part of an assault on the Draconis Combine world of Hyperion, in search of units from the Wolf's Dragoons while under Lyran Commonwealth contract. While in the capital city of Ahsiz, however, the Rangers were attacked by a larger force of two Dragoons regiments and forced to retreat off-world.[5]

BattleMech[edit]

C.H.G. Keller was known to pilot an Awesome BattleMech.[1]
