Profile
ProfessionJournalist[1]

Cameron Shaw was, as of 3133, a journalist specializing in war and politics. He was known for his coverage of conflict in the shattered Free Worlds League.[1]

History[edit]

By 3133, Shaw had over thirty years of experience as a field journalist, covering conflicts in Manihiki, Sophie's World, Mansu-ri, Tapachula, and more. He had developed a reputation for showing up where conflict was coming, earning him the nickname "Angel of Death".[1] On occasion, he had been wounded on the job - though only shot once. Omnibus collections of his articles, were available from his publisher Black Border.[2] At some point, on Sadurni or New Delos, he met then-Marik-Stewart Commonwealth soldier Diane Jameson.[3]

In June 3131, Shaw interviewed Sadia Wolf, pre-Steel Wolves, for a piece on allegations of covert Republic of the Sphere military operations in the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth. He found Sadia hostile at the time.[4]

After the Blackout, Shaw moved to cover the conflict over the Republic of the Sphere. He was present on Ankaa for the December 3132 battle between the Steel Wolves and the Swordsworn, covering the conflict for his ongoing series "Interesting Times, Dangerous Places." He arrived days before the Steel Wolves occupied the planet, having heard rumors of them massing and moving into Prefecture IV - he figured the industrial hub Ankaa would be a priority target.[1] On 19 December, three days into the Steel Wolves' occupation, the Wolves captured him on suspicion of spying and brought him to their commander - Sadia Wolf - for questioning. Shortly after he was let go, the Swordsworn launched their attack: a direct orbital drop into the capital, Anqabad.[4]

Shaw barely avoided the shrapnel, and was quickly located by a squad of the planetary militia. He was given guidance out of the area, and told who was in charge of the Swordsworn attack: a familiar-sounding Free Worlder named Jameson.[5] When the Swordsworn withdrew from the city and the battle ran with them, he followed, heading north to the Great Maze.[6] There, he found Swordsworn troops and started to question them, only to find himself held at gunpoint by Diane Jameson.[7] The two spoke, Shaw once again suspected of spying, and Jameson decided to take him along for the next fight.[3]

After his eventual evacuation from Ankaa and some time in a Tikonov hospital to recover from wounds, by mid-3133, Shaw heard rumors of a Dragon's Fury attack on Ronel. Seeing a story, he managed to board the Swordsworn DropShip Alacrity on its way to assist the defenders.[2] Once on Ronel, an unfriendly Lisabet Wolf brought him to local Swordsworn commander Santiago Padilla to discuss the situation, and Padilla offered him the chance to ride along for their attack on the Omar-Hyrogi mine.[8]
