In 2812, in response to the loss of the Bolan Thumb and their humiliating defeat at the hands of The Stealths on Poulsbo, the Free Worlds League managed to convince Lyran noble Richard Perkins to assassinate Archon Richard Steiner. Hauptmann Bateman, assigned to the royal court, saved the Archon's life when he slammed the hand of his BattleMech down between the two men as Perkins attempted to draw and fire a laser pistol directly at Steiner.[1]
